Safeguarding Policy 2025–2026
1. Purpose and Scope of This Policy
The purpose of this policy is to:

Protect children and young people who receive tutoring or support from Tutoring Ambitions.

Provide clear guidance for tutors, staff, parents, carers and students in how we safeguard and protect children.
This policy applies to all individuals working on behalf of Tutoring Ambitions including directors, tutors, contractors and volunteers.
By engaging our services you agree to the principles set out in this policy including our responsibility to report safeguarding concerns to external agencies when necessary.
2. Legal Framework
This policy is underpinned by UK safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance including:

3. Definitions
Safeguarding:
Actions taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.
Child Protection:
Measures taken to protect specific children who are at risk of or experiencing abuse or significant harm.
DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead):
The trained individual responsible for managing safeguarding concerns and ensuring appropriate action is taken.
Abuse:
Includes physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, bullying, cyberbullying, online exploitation, grooming, exposure to harmful content and radicalisation.

5. How We Keep Children and Young People Safe
General Safeguarding Measures
Tutoring Ambitions will:

Ensure parents, tutors and students know how to raise safeguarding concerns.

Respond promptly and appropriately to safeguarding issues.

Appoint a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
-
Follow safer recruitment procedures including enhanced DBS checks for all tutors.

Require all tutors and staff to complete annual safeguarding training.

Maintain professional standards and clear codes of conduct.
-
Keep secure factual written records of any safeguarding concerns.

Enforce complaints, anti-bullying and whistleblowing procedures.
-
Promote a culture of openness, respect and safeguarding awareness.

Handle data securely and in accordance with UK GDPR.
Online Safety Policy
When delivering online tutoring sessions Tutoring Ambitions will:

Require tutors to complete safeguarding and online safety training.

Ensure tutors use only first names when communicating with students.
-
Require both tutor and student to have their cameras switched on throughout the session.

Strongly recommend that students join sessions from a shared or supervised space rather than a bedroom.
-
Encourage parents or carers to remain nearby during sessions.
-
Maintain classroom-appropriate behaviour expectations in all online interactions.

Record all online tutoring sessions stored securely and accessible only to Tutoring Ambitions for safeguarding or quality assurance.
6. Reporting and Managing Concerns
How to Raise a Concern
If a tutor, parent, carer or child has a safeguarding concern they should contact:

Responsibilities of Tutors and Staff

Any safeguarding concern must be reported to the DSL as soon as possible.

Reports should be factual, timely and submitted using the internal reporting process.

All concerns will be documented and stored securely.

The DSL will determine whether the concern requires escalation to external agencies including:
7. Allegations Against Tutors or Staff

Any allegation that a tutor or staff member has harmed a child will be taken seriously and managed according to statutory safeguarding procedures.

Where necessary Tutoring Ambitions will notify the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).

The tutor or staff member may be suspended or removed from duties while investigations are ongoing.
8. Prevent Duty
Tutoring Ambitions is committed to protecting children from exposure to extremist ideologies and radicalisation.
Tutors and staff will:

Recognise signs of radicalisation or extremist influence.
-
Report Prevent-related concerns immediately to the DSL.
-
Complete Prevent awareness training as required.
9. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are significant changes to legislation or service delivery.
